mHealth Clinical Processes Guide

mHealth programs can operate outside the clinical setting or within it, depending on the program. Both types of programs should involve clinical considerations in some form, as programs operating within the clinical setting interacting with clinicians and clinical staff more often. In order to standardize the delivery of mHealth care, guidelines or protocols outlining key clinical processes should be developed. Clinical care processes to address include patient assessment and enrollment, patient care plans, patient education, and how clinicians should respond to data or alerts generated by mHealth technologies. Note that protocols and guidelines are not a substitute for clinician judgment, but rather augment the care process.
